Now that you've got that, you need a new folder to keep your world saves and mods separate from the vanilla Minecraft files. (Yes, you have to use the 1.5.1 version as a starting base. This is why the new Minecraft launcher is awesome – it supports multiple versions, including multiple modded versions. Now you will have a nice fresh new Minecraft jar version that you can start modding. To say aether2 (or whatever you named the files and folder) "id": "aether2", Change the line inside that reads "id": "1.5.1", Then open the JSON file with a text editor ( not Notepad, since it mangles config files use Wordpad, or get Notepad++). Stick with aether2 until you grok the process.) (The name "aether2" is not important – it could be anything, so long as you use the exact same name in every place where aether2 appears in these instructions. You should now have a versions/aether2/ folder containing aether2.jar and aether2.json.

json extensions as appropriate (OS X may not show you the extension of the files, in which case don't worry, they'll be unchanged and stay correct). Rename the new folder, the jar file, and the JSON file all to aether2 +. Make a copy of your versions/1.5.1 folder and put it beside the 1.5.1 folder.
Minecraft mods aether install#
Here's a step-by-step guide to get you to the point where the mod's install instructions will make sense again: This is what I'm doing now, since I find it more robust than messing with other launchers. However, you can also use the new Minecraft launcher directly, leveraging its new multi-version features. If this is your situation, this is where my instructions end because I don't know your launcher's setup. Rename the copy of 1.5.1.jar to minecraft.jar and proceed from there. If you're using a 3rd-party launcher, you can copy the 1.5.1.jar file in your versions/ folders to wherever your launcher keeps its version of Minecraft. Now there are just multiple copies of minecraft.jar all renamed to keep them separate. The Backpack mode is the same as the usual inventory, while the Accessories mode allows access to special armor slots- 1 Pendant, 1 Companion, 1 Shield, 2 Rings, 1 pair of Gloves and 2 Miscellaneous slots. The numbered jar files in your versions/* folders work exactly like the old bin/minecraft.jar file used to.

A tab is added at the top, to switch between between "Backpack" and "Accessories" mode. The Aether II modifies the normal Minecraft inventory. They may or not be online, depending on many various factors. It can be restored the original menu by clicking the arrow buttons at the top-left of the screen.Ĭlicking "The Cloud Network" allows access to the Aether II's official servers (or "Clouds"). The Aether II, per default, modifies the Minecraft menu. This does, however, cause significant fall damage, but this can be avoided with a Parachute such as the Cold Cloud Parachute. Instead of falling into a void like The End, the player will fall back into the Overworld (note this is one-way moving up into/above the clouds from the Overworld will NOT result in entering the Aether). However, there is also another way to exit- by jumping off the floating islands and into the clouds below. When entering the Aether, a portal will be generated in the new dimension, again just like the Nether Portal, which can be entered and exited, just like the Nether Portal.Īs noted above, the Aether can be exited through the Aether Portal. The portal should be "lit" with a Water Bucket instead of a Flint and Steel. The Aether can be entered by created a structure similar to the Nether Portal, but out of Glowstone instead of Obsidian.
